I had heard that John Leguizamo was touring with a new show and I obviously got very interested. The show: “Latin History For Morons”
Cutting it down to it’s core component, this show should be required viewing for all teenagers (can’t say kids, this show is definitely not G)
I’ve always had a tremendous amount of respect for this comedian who baring a few missteps in the movie business has always been an underrated comedian.
I got hooked 20 years ago by his one man show Freak. Directed by Spike Lee this show is in my opinion on par with Whoopi Goldberg’s masterpiece Whoopi Goldberg: Direct from Broadway. Clearly a different tone but just as incredible a performance, in your face and thought provoking. Both will make you laugh and think.
A lot of time has passed since Freak but Latin History For Morons will definitely make you laugh and think. This time it is even more thought provoking.
John Leguizamo in this show discusses a slice of his life through his relationship with his son. I’ve read many critique who go on and on about the Latin history piece, and yes it is the overt message of the show but looming through the entire show is a dad desperately trying to be there for his son, helping him, teaching him and not giving up regardless of the setbacks. This is something any parent can relate to.
I stand by what I said earlier, this show should be required shared viewing for parents and their teens.
